Coaching Skills for


This intensive two day training course is to introduce coaching skills and techniques with the aim of developing the widespread use of these skills.

Who is this course for?

This course is for middle and senior leaders, including support staff team leaders, or leaders of the future.

  • Anyone who is looking to develop their coaching skills; perhaps to lead more effectively themselves or to unlock the full potential of individuals in their teams, or whole school.
  • Anyone who is looking to develop their repertoire of coaching skills to support other colleagues to develop or improve performance; developing coaching as a whole school culture to underpin their entire CPD programme.

What are the objectives or outcomes?

This course will develop the skills and habits of school leaders, or future school leaders, so that they can:

  • Widen the use of coaching skills in their school.
  • Spread the use of coaching in line-management meetings, pupil meetings, and their wider leadership practice.
  • Develop all colleagues through the widespread use of coaching techniques.
  • Reduce school CPD costs over time as participants will become equipped to deliver all key CPD.

Practical information

This course is hosted at Roundwood Park School, Harpenden from 09.00am to 3.00pm on the following concurrent days:
  • Monday 22nd January 2018
  • Tuesday 23rd January 2018
The final programme will be made available at the start of the course, however the course will include:
  • An introduction to coaching, including the core skills
  • Coaching goals and questioning
  • Coaching techniques
  • Implementation at a whole school level

Meet the facilitators

Alex Gray

Alex Gray

Alex is an Assistant Head at Roundwood Park School. Alex leads Teaching and Learning and developing learning habits within the school.  A former Head of Music, Alex became a Professional Coach in 2011.  She leads the coaching team and the practice of coaching through the school.  She has seen the benefits of establishing and developing a coaching culture to improve staff CPD in each of the schools.

Laura Davies

Laura Davies

Laura is a Head of MFL at Roundwood Park School.  She has been a Professional Coach at the school since 2011 and has shaped the development of a coaching culture at Roundwood Park.  She is committed to her MFL outreach work in her role as an SLE, having established a successful primary support group in the local area.  She believes that coaching skills are key to developing staff at all levels.
