       Specialist Training (TSST) in Maths

Seven sessions which focus on KS3 and KS4 mathematics teaching.  Each session involves theoretical and practical ideas and allows delegates to increase their confidence in knowledge, understanding and delivery of mathematical content.

Who is this course for?

This course is for teachers who are teaching maths outside their personal specialism and may not have studied mathematics beyond KS4 or may need a refresher on subject knowledge.

What are the objectives or outcomes?

On this programme participants will:

  • Gain an insight into key concepts and teaching methods for mathematics
  • Be introduced to an extensive range of online and other resources
  • Check and improve their mathematical knowledge of KS3 and KS4 techniques

  • Facilitated sessions
  • Discussion of alternative delivery methods
  • Tasks to develop personal understanding
  • Ideas for delivering concepts
  • Gap task on handling misconceptions
  • Gap task on KS4 knowledge

Meet the Facilitators

Kyle Barry
Kyle Barry
Kyle is a Specialist Leader of Education with the Alban Teach School Alliance, currently
leading a successful and expanding mathematics department at Samuel Ryder Academy.
He has led whole school numeracy for a number of years, whilst concurrently managing
pastoral development as a Head of Year. Kyle has experienced the positive impact of
communication through his work across a range of schools throughout his career and has
a passion for collaborative working.
Val Pritchard

Val Pritchard

Val divides her time between work as a Leading Practitioner at Roundwood Park School and as the Further Maths Support Programme Area Coordinator for Herts, Harlow and Luton.  She has extensive experience in delivering and evaluating teaching and learning. Through her work with the Further Maths Support Programme she is completely up-to-date with new aspects of GCSE and A level as well as the background topics that provide a foundation at KS2 and KS3. She has NCETM Level 3 Professional Development Lead Accreditation. Her particular interests centre around the support for students and teachers as they engage in problem solving activities and new curricula at KS4 and KS5.
